Fire at Medline Industries Facility Incident Update

At approximately 1:00 p.m. today, fire crews responded to reports of a fire on the roof of the Medline warehouse facility located at 5701 Promontory Pkwy, Tracy, CA 95377.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a rapidly developing fire involving the roof area of the structure. Early suppression efforts were hampered by a failure of the building's private fire water system, which significantly impacted initial firefighting operations. Combined with high winds, low humidity, and elevated temperatures, the fire quickly extended from the roof into the interior of the facility.

Due to these conditions, the fire spread rapidly throughout the structure, ultimately impacting the entire approximately one-million-square-foot warehouse facility.

As the incident progressed, wind-driven embers traveled south of the main fire, igniting several spot fires in the surrounding area. Firefighters responded to multiple secondary fires, including fires involving large pallet storage areas and several trailers near the FedEx facility. Crews aggressively attacked these fires and continue working to protect the FedEx facility and surrounding properties.

Additional spot fires occurred in the vicinity of Schulte Road and Larch Road, as well as near Tracy Municipal Airport. Mutual aid resources were quickly deployed to these locations and successfully contained the fires, preventing further spread.

A significant regional response remains underway. Fire resources from throughout San Joaquin County, Alameda County, and neighboring jurisdictions have responded to assist. Incident management personnel from Stanislaus County are also supporting operations. Fire agencies continue to coordinate closely with local law enforcement, including the Police Department, Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, and City staff.

Water supply challenges associated with the facility's private fire protection system impacted initial operations; however, municipal water pressure remains stable and continues to support firefighting efforts.

Fire crews remain engaged in an extensive suppression operation, with the primary objectives of protecting life, preventing additional fire spread, and safeguarding nearby homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.
