Published on April 08, 2026
The City of Tracy’s Community & Economic Development Department, in partnership with VOLT Institute and VOLT On the Go, is offering free, hands-on training programs designed to prepare residents for careers in advanced manufacturing and industrial technology.
Two training opportunities will be available in 2026, focusing on essential systems used in modern manufacturing and logistics environments:
Introduction to Manufacturing – Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)
April 20–23, 2026 | 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. daily
Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) – Level 1
August 10–14, 2026 | 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. daily
All sessions will be held at the Tracy Transit Center, 50 E. Sixth Street, Tracy, CA 95376.
These no-cost trainings are designed to provide participants with practical, job-ready skills aligned with today’s high-demand manufacturing and logistics industries.
The April VFD course introduces participants to Variable Frequency Drives, which control the speed and efficiency of electric motors used in systems such as conveyors, pumps, and automated production lines. Participants will gain foundational skills in installation, programming, and troubleshooting.
The August PLC course will focus on Programmable Logic Controllers—the backbone of industrial automation. Widely used to control machinery and production processes, PLCs play a critical role in improving efficiency, reliability, and system integration. This first-level course will equip participants with essential skills to program, operate, and troubleshoot PLC systems.
These trainings are part of the City’s ongoing commitment to workforce development and economic growth by expanding access to technical education and supporting pathways to high-quality careers in advanced industries.
The programs are free and open to individuals interested in upskilling or entering the manufacturing and logistics fields.
