City Implements Recycled Water Irrigation System at Legacy Fields
Published on March 27, 2026
The City of Tracy began using recycled, non‑potable water to irrigate Legacy Fields on March 23, marking a significant step toward long‑term water conservation and sustainable park operations.
The transition allowed the City to preserve potable drinking water supplies while continuing to maintain the high-quality turf conditions expected by athletes and visitors. Recycled water was introduced exclusively for landscape irrigation, while all potable water services—including drinking fountains, restrooms, and concessions—continued to operate with safe, domestic water.
Irrigation using recycled water has been scheduled during overnight hours, between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., to minimize public impact and ensure efficient water use.
During the initial transition period, some visitors may have noticed minor operational adjustments as City staff closely monitored the system and made refinements to ensure reliable performance. Staff remains committed to evaluating conditions to keep the fields safe, playable, and well-maintained.
Legacy Fields continues to serve as one of the region’s premier destinations for local sports, tournaments, and community recreation. The City remains dedicated to providing an excellent experience for all users while advancing responsible resource management.
By incorporating recycled water into park operations, the City has taken an important step toward a more sustainable future and the long-term preservation of valuable drinking water resources for the community.
