The City of Tracy marked an exciting milestone in community recreation with the opening of a new BMX pump track at Clyde Bland Park. The project reflects the City’s continued commitment to expanding inclusive, engaging, and active outdoor spaces for residents of all ages.

City leaders, staff, and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new amenity, which adds a dynamic feature to the park system and supports healthy, active lifestyles.

“This project represents more than just a new recreational feature—it’s a reflection of our community’s vision and our commitment to enhancing quality of life in Tracy,” said Dan Arriola, Mayor of Tracy. “We listened to our residents, especially our youth and families, who asked for more opportunities for outdoor activity and fun. Today, we are delivering on that commitment.”

A Community-Driven Vision

The BMX pump track is part of the City’s long-term Parks, Recreation, and Trails Master Plan, which guides strategic investments in public spaces. Plans for the project were shaped by extensive community input, including public outreach meetings held in early 2023 and recommendations from the Parks & Community Services Commission.

The completed facility includes two distinct riding loops—an intermediate track and an advanced track—designed to accommodate riders of varying skill levels. Pump tracks feature a series of rollers and berms that allow riders to generate momentum through body movement rather than pedaling, making them accessible to beginners while still offering a challenge for experienced users.

Building Community Through Recreation

City officials emphasized that projects like the pump track go beyond recreation. They create opportunities for connection, skill development, and positive youth engagement.

The pump track also represents progress toward a broader goal outlined in the Master Plan to construct multiple pump tracks citywide by 2040, expanding access to this increasingly popular recreational activity.

Collaborative Effort

The project was made possible through collaboration between City departments, community stakeholders, and project partners. Design services were provided by Westwood Professional Services, with construction led by Frontline General Engineering. Specialized track design and construction were completed by Spohn Ranch Skateparks, with construction management by Griffin Structures.

City staff across Parks Planning and Development, Engineering, Public Works, and Maintenance divisions also played a key role in bringing the project from concept to completion.

Looking Ahead

While the opening of the BMX pump track marks a significant achievement, City leaders view it as just the beginning. Future enhancements and additional recreational opportunities are already being explored to further activate Clyde Bland Park and serve the growing community.

Residents are encouraged to visit the park, experience the new pump track, and take part in the expanding recreational offerings available throughout the city.
