What to Expect

Morning

Students begin the day by meeting department leaders and exploring how each department supports the city. Through an interactive City Information Fair, they’ll also learn about roles, responsibilities, and opportunities available through the Mayor’s Summer Internship Program that will kick off in June 2026.

Afternoon

A complimentary lunch will be provided for all attendees. After, students will work with staff to prepare for their roles in a mock city council meeting. They’ll step into positions such as the Mayor, Councilmembers, City Leaders, Concerned Residents, or Local Business Owners. The day concludes with a full mock council meeting where students bring these roles to life. Parents are welcome to attend and observe the mock city council meeting.

What is a work permit?

A work permit is like a permission slip that allows you to have a job while you're still in school. It's meant to make sure you stay safe and keep up with your schoolwork.

Why do you need a work permit?

  • Safety First: It ensures that your job is safe and suitable for someone your age.
  • Balance: It helps you balance your job with your school responsibilities, so you can still do well in your classes.

Each school has specific instructions on how to request a Work Permit.
